AI Email Campaigns
AI Email Campaigns let you send each contact in your audience a personalized, individually written email. Instead of composing one message for everyone, you describe what the campaign should accomplish — Levitate researches each recipient and writes them their own email.
Note: AI Email Campaigns require the AI plan and must be enabled on your account. Contact your Success Specialist if you don't see the option. Accounts that require or have enabled compliance review don't see Create AI Email Campaign.
Creating a campaign with Lev
Go to Campaigns and choose Create AI Email Campaign. This opens a chat with Lev. You describe what the campaign is for, answer a few questions, choose who receives it, and review three sample emails before you schedule.
Start page
The start page has a goal box. Type what the campaign should accomplish and send it to start the chat. Two menus under the goal box give you a starting point instead:
- Ideas for your industry — prompts written by Levitate for your account's industry.
- My prompts — your own saved prompts first, then the ones shared with your team.
Picking a prompt starts the chat with it.
Lev's questions
Lev asks about the goal one question at a time on a question card, for example the next step you want recipients to take, the tone, and what to include. Choose an option, or type your own answer in the Something else box and press Enter. You can also press the number key next to an option to pick it.
The chat box is hidden while a question card is open. To type a reply instead, choose Reply in chat (the arrow on the card). Answer brings the card back.
Campaign card and steps
Once Lev saves the draft, the address of the page changes to your draft and a campaign card appears at the top right. Opening a step turns the card into a side panel that you can resize between 400 and 800 pixels wide. It has two steps, Audience and Schedule.
Audience
Lev suggests an audience, and the Audience step opens on it. In the step you can set:
- Send from, shown when you can send on behalf of others or have shared mailboxes
- Tags, or See advanced filters to filter the audience further
- Send to, whose contacts the audience includes
- Individual people: add them with Search contacts to add, or remove them from the list
Contacts without an email address are left out, and the count says so. The step is read-only while Lev is working.
Note: Each campaign has a size limit, and AI emails count against a monthly allowance, with a separate allowance for emails that use web search. An audience over either limit shows a warning, and the campaign can't be scheduled until it fits.
Sample emails
Once the campaign has an audience and Lev isn't replying, a Next step card offers Write the samples. Choosing it asks Lev to write three sample emails for real people on your list. Each sample is in its own tab, shows why Lev wrote it that way, and shows the email as it will be sent. A sample that was skipped or failed says so. View prompt shows the instructions Lev will use, read-only, with Copy prompt.
Ask for changes in your own words. Lev updates the instructions and writes the samples again.
Scheduling
When you tell Lev the samples look good, the Schedule step opens. It has:
- A calendar marking your planned campaigns and those already sent
- The send time. Lev writes each recipient's email about 36 hours before the send, so a campaign must be scheduled at least 36 hours ahead, and the content reflects your data at that point rather than when you scheduled.
- When Lev writes the emails and the last day they go out
- A holiday warning, if your account observes holidays
- The sender's other campaigns
Lev doesn't schedule or send the campaign; you do. Choose Schedule campaign. It's available once the campaign has a goal, an audience within your limits and a send time, and not while Lev is replying.
After you schedule, a card replaces the chat box. It shows when the campaign is scheduled for, how many emails it sends and from whom, and when Lev writes them. You get an email when they've been written. Manage campaign opens the review screen, and Start another campaign starts another one.
Drafts
An unscheduled campaign is a draft. Drafts don't appear in your campaign lists, so keep the page's address: it includes the draft's id, and opening it brings back the chat. Leaving a draft that isn't scheduled asks you to confirm first.
Note: Web search and skipping recently contacted people are set by asking Lev; the page has no controls for them. A scheduled campaign's instructions can't be edited.
Reviewing the written emails
Open the campaign from Manage campaign, or from Review AI Emails on its report. Before the emails are written, you can choose Write them now instead of waiting. Once they're written, select a recipient to read their email, then choose Edit email to change it in the email editor or Remove recipient to take them off the campaign. Remove recipient isn't available when only one written email is left.
There is no option to regenerate one recipient's email. If an email needs changes, edit it.
Campaigns that are only partly written
Not every recipient always ends up with an email. Some emails can't be written, and the AI leaves out a contact when it judges the campaign isn't right for them. Anyone without a written email does not receive the campaign.
Day-before heads-up email
The day before a campaign goes out, Levitate sends a heads-up email. For a partly written campaign, it says how many recipients won't get the campaign. What it says depends on what happened:
- Some emails couldn't be written. The email is headlined "Some of your AI campaign emails couldn't be written." and gives the breakdown. For example: "18 of 21 recipients have their own email ready to read. 2 couldn't be written, and 1 was left out because the AI judged this campaign wasn't right for them. They won't receive this campaign. Open it to see who, and edit or remove any email before it sends."
- The AI only left out contacts. The email keeps its usual "written and goes out tomorrow" headline and adds a line such as "The AI left out N of M contacts because it judged this campaign wasn't right for them. Open it to see who and why."
Open the campaign before it sends to review who is affected. You can edit or remove any written email from the review grid, as described in Reviewing the written emails.
Recipient counts and removing contacts
The recipient count for a written AI campaign counts only recipients who have an email.
A contact with no written email can't be removed from the campaign. Levitate shows "No email was written for this contact, so they won't receive this campaign. There is nothing to remove."
If generation fails
If generation fails on its final attempt, the campaign ends in a Failed state with the message "Generate the campaign again to finish it."
Seeing who won't receive the campaign
On the campaign's review screen, the recipient count includes only the recipients who have a written email. When some recipients have no written email, a second line breaks them down, for example "2 couldn't be written · 1 left out by AI". The review screen opens on the first recipient who has a written email.
Below the written emails, a Not receiving this campaign card lists every contact who won't get the campaign. Each contact has a colored label that says why:
- Couldn't be written — Levitate couldn't write this contact's email.
- Left out by AI — the AI left this contact out. The AI's reason appears on their row.
Rows in this card can't be selected.

When every recipient has a written email, the summary line and the Not receiving this campaign card don't appear.
Rescheduling an AI campaign
Rescheduling an AI campaign follows the same earliest-send-time rule as scheduling it for the first time, down to the time slot. Where you reschedule from depends on whether the campaign's emails have been written yet.
Emails not written yet
On the campaign's report page, Reschedule for an AI campaign whose emails haven't been written yet opens the send options on the review page instead of a pop-up window. Choose the new date and time there.
On the earliest day you can pick, time slots earlier than the earliest allowed send time are hidden. If the time carried over from the existing schedule is too early, it moves to the first allowed slot. Levitate also refuses a schedule that is too soon, so a time inside the generation window can't be saved.
Emails already written, and other campaigns
An AI campaign whose emails are already written, and any normal campaign, reschedules from the pop-up window on the report page.
Monthly usage
Your account has a monthly allowance for AI Email Campaigns. Usage is counted when emails are written, including the sample emails, not when they send: a campaign that is written and then cancelled has already used its allowance for those recipients. Emails that use web search count against your total and against a smaller web-search allowance within it. The Audience step shows how many you have left this month.
FAQs
Q: Can I regenerate a recipient's email if I don't like it?
A: There is no regenerate button. Select the recipient on the campaign's review screen and choose Edit email. You can change the subject line, body, or both before the campaign sends.
Q: What happens if a contact unsubscribes after I schedule the campaign?
A: Unsubscribed and bounced contacts are excluded at send time. A contact who unsubscribes after you schedule won't receive the email.
Q: Is there a limit on how many contacts I can include?
A: Yes. Each campaign has a size limit. If your audience is over it, narrow the audience or split the campaign.
