User Groups for Feature Permissions
How User Groups Work
The User Groups feature in Levitate is for account Admins and Super Admins to control which users can access which features. Currently, the ability to view, edit, or see reporting for Automations, AI Conversations, and all survey types (Satisfaction, Event Registration, Custom, and Donation) can be limited or allowed through User Groups. They also control which groups see Levitate's pre-built Content Library templates and which see your team's custom templates.
Instead of basing access to these features on user type (e.g., Limited User, User, Admin, or Super Admin), the User Groups feature gives Admins and Super Admins finer-grained control.
Check out our step-by-step guide to finding, creating, and editing User Groups:
A Closer Look
Here's a close-up of the interface for creating and updating a User Group:

This is where the Admin or Super Admin will name the User Group, decide what kind of access the group has to each listed feature, and choose which Levitate users are in the group.
Read: access and view
Write: access, view, create, edit, and delete
View Reporting: see the performance behind each Automation, AI Conversation, or Survey
The same modal also controls template visibility — see Custom Template Permissions for custom templates and Content Library Permissions for Content Library templates.
Custom Template Permissions
Custom templates are email and social campaign templates your team creates. They can be shared to specific user groups so only members of those groups see the template in the campaign browser. This lets you scope templates to specific teams, offices, or roles without creating duplicate content.
To assign a template to user groups, open the template in the campaign editor and look for the Permissions option in the template settings. Select the groups that should have access, then save.
Content Library Permissions
Admins and Super Admins can also control which user groups have access to Content Library templates — Levitate's email, social, and card templates. This is managed through the Content Library section of the same User Groups settings modal shown above (Settings > User Groups).
The Content Library section has one row — System Templates — with a checkbox for each template type: Email, Social, and Cards. Each checkbox works independently, so you can toggle them in any combination to control which Content Library template types this group sees.
Handwritten Card Permissions
When Handwritten Cards is enabled on your account, a Handwritten Cards row appears in the User Groups settings modal. Account Admins and Super Admins can use this row to control what each user group can do with Handwritten Cards.
The four sub-permissions for Handwritten Cards are:
- Read: view Handwritten Cards and card details
- Write: create, edit, and delete cards
- Send: send cards to contacts
- View Reporting: see Handwritten Cards performance data in Reporting
These permissions are enforced across the People page, individual contact profiles, Campaigns, the birthday email editor, and Reporting.
Note: The Handwritten Cards row only appears in User Groups settings when the Handwritten Cards feature is enabled on your account. If you do not see it, contact your Success Specialist or our Support team.
Social Media Permissions
When Social Media is enabled on your account, a Social Media row appears in the User Groups settings modal. Account Admins and Super Admins can use this row to control what each user group can do with Social Media features.
The four sub-permissions for Social Media are:
- Read: view social media content and activity
- Write: create and edit social media posts
- Send/Post: publish and schedule posts to connected social accounts
- View Reporting: see social media performance data, including Google Reviews reporting
These permissions are enforced in Campaigns, the Content Calendar, Personal Settings, and Google Reviews reporting.
Enabling Write, Send/Post, or View Reporting automatically enables Read for that group. Disabling Read will also disable Write, Send/Post, and View Reporting.
Note: The Social Media row only appears in User Groups settings when the Social Media feature is enabled on your account. If you do not see it, contact your Success Specialist or our Support team.
