Merging Contacts in Levitate by ID
Some background
Historically, Levitate has always merged contacts by email address. We have provided the option to accounts that do not want to merge by email address to merge contacts in another way, through using a unique ID. Most integrations have an ID associated with every contact. Accounts adding contact information through spreadsheets can also include an Additional ID in order for their contacts to merge by ID over email address.
How it works for integrated accounts
If your source system is connected to Levitate through one of our report or API based integrations, it's likely that you're already set up to have contacts merge by Resource ID rather than by email address.
If you're not, it's something that our Support team can set up for you. Merging by Resource ID is currently the default and only option for contacts brought into Levitate through integration.
How it works for accounts importing via Spreadsheet and CSV
If you're importing your client information to Levitate using spreadsheets, you can also set contacts to merge by Additional ID. Unlike integrated accounts, there is no toggle that will enable this feature— just by having an Additional ID field the contacts imported with an Additional ID will merge by that ID.
If you've previously imported contacts without an Additional ID and want to implement merge by ID, you can! If a contact in Levitate does not have an Additional ID from your source system, and you add an Additional ID through another import, the contact will be assigned the new Additional ID through one last email merge. Once you implement an Additional ID to a contact, each updated spreadsheet will need to have that ID listed in order for the merge to happen properly.
