Social Media: Getting Connected
When connecting social media and Levitate, there might be a few hoops that you must jump through in order for everything to work properly!
A few quick pointers before you get started:
- Have your Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn credentials on hand when setting up!
- You must have a personal Facebook page created and active to be able to get Facebook or Instagram connected
- If connecting Facebook and Instagram, you'll need for your personal Facebook page to be an admin on your Facebook business page (more on this below, but a good rule of thumb to have this set!)
- You do not need to access Meta business to connect Facebook or Instagram
Connecting to your Facebook Business page
Connecting to Facebook is a fairly simple process. There are just a few things required in order to make sure that we can connect. First, you must have a personal Facebook account on Facebook.com. From there, you'll be able to create or connect your Facebook Business Page that Levitate can connect and post to. To be able to post through Levitate, the Facebook Business Page must be connected to a personal Facebook account.
Creating a Facebook Business Page
To create that Business Page, you will go under 'Pages' via your personal Facebook account.

From there, you'll choose '+ Create new Page' which will allow you to make that Business page.

Using an existing Facebook Business page
If you already have a Facebook Business page, you will need to open Levitate and navigate to 'Settings' via the dropdown menu under your name in the upper right corner. From there, you'll scroll and see 'Social Media.' You'll choose 'Connect to Facebook' and from there in put your person Facebook page credentials when prompted to do so.

Once you've logged in successfully, you'll go through the next prompt to claim which Facebook Business page you would like to post to, and click 'Finish.'
If everything worked out in this step, you will receive a notification from Levitate letting you know that the page is connected.
If you're having an issue at this step, you are most likely not an administrator of the Facebook Business page (i.e. the Business Page is not associated with your personal Facebook page at all).
Connecting Instagram with Levitate + Facebook
Instagram is a little more tricky! Here are a few steps and helpful guides for getting your connection set up.
First, open Instagram and switch the profile you would like to post on to a professional account. You'll see the option to do so by choosing 'More' in the bottom left corner. From that menu, you'll choose settings.

When you are in the Settings Menu, you'll scroll down in the menu that's on the lefthand side of the page. You'll choose 'Account type and tools' and choose the option to 'Switch to professional account.'

Finally, you'll choose Business.
Once you make your Instagram a professional account, you will need to navigate back to Facebook as to connect that Instagram account with Facebook. When signed into Facebook— toggle from your personal Facebook account to your Facebook Business page. This can be done by clicking on your first initial in the upper right corner.
Once you've switched into the Facebook Business account, you'll choose 'Settings' from the menu listed under 'Manage Page.' From that Settings menu, you will choose 'Linked Accounts,' choose Instagram, and choose 'Connect account.'

Once you choose that option, you'll enter your Instagram credentials to establish that connection.
When attempting to connect Instagram to Facebook, in this instance, there are a few different error messages that you might run into, but the root cause is usually that you need to review the connection (and you will see this on the Instagram connection page). If you attempt to sign in once more, and you get the same error message— take a look at what the error message itself says— but most of the time, this issue can be remedied by trying to login once more.
If you're still unable to connect on the second try, it's most likely a Facebook bug that you're seeing. A simple work around is to create a brand new Facebook Business page and simply connect the Instagram to the new Facebook Business page. Creating this new page will not impact your Levitate - Facebook connection (i.e. you will be able to use the original Facebook page for posting via Levitate, the new page is solely to get Instagram connected.)
Getting connected to LinkedIn
Getting connected to LinkedIn is the simplest of the three— just go to Settings via the dropdown menu under your name in Levitate, choose Social Media, connect to LinkedIn, and enter your credentials.

Troubleshooting Connection Errors
Facebook "Suspected Automated Behavior" Error
If you see a "suspected automated behavior" message from Facebook while trying to connect or reconnect your account, this is a security flag raised by Facebook — not an error within Levitate. Facebook may show this when it detects unusual login patterns or repeated authorization attempts in a short period of time.
Steps to resolve:
- Wait at least 15–30 minutes before attempting to reconnect.
- Log in to Facebook directly at facebook.com and confirm your account is in good standing (no security alerts or verification steps pending).
- Clear your browser cookies and cache, or try reconnecting in a private/incognito browser window.
- Return to Levitate Settings > Social Media and attempt to reconnect your Facebook account.
Note: If Facebook has locked or restricted your account due to this flag, you may need to complete Facebook's own identity verification before Levitate can reconnect. Follow any prompts Facebook presents during that process.
Persistent Errors After Repeated Disconnect/Reconnect Attempts
If your social media account continues to show an error even after disconnecting and reconnecting multiple times, the most common cause is that Facebook page permissions were not fully re-granted during the reconnect flow.
Steps to resolve:
- Go to Settings > Social Media in Levitate.
- Disconnect the account showing the error.
- Click Connect to Facebook and sign in when prompted.
- When the Facebook authorization window appears, click Edit Previous Settings rather than accepting defaults.
- Make sure the checkbox is selected for every Facebook Business Page you want Levitate to post to.
- Click Done to save your permissions, then complete the connection in Levitate.
Note: Skipping the "Edit Previous Settings" step is the most common reason errors persist after reconnecting. Facebook does not automatically restore previously granted page permissions — you must re-select them each time you reconnect.
If the error still appears after following these steps, please contact Levitate Support so we can investigate further.
LinkedIn Connection Errors
LinkedIn connections use a time-limited token that expires periodically. Levitate will send you an email reminder before your LinkedIn connection expires so you have time to reconnect without interrupting scheduled posts.
If you see a connection error or a Reconnect prompt for LinkedIn:
- Go to Settings > Social Media in Levitate.
- Click Reconnect next to your LinkedIn account.
- Click Continue with LinkedIn in the confirmation dialog and sign in when prompted.
If you are trying to connect an additional LinkedIn account and encounter an error, verify that the LinkedIn account you are connecting has not already been connected by another user in your organization. Each LinkedIn account can only be authorized to one Levitate user profile at a time. If the issue persists, contact Levitate Support.
Troubleshooting: Posts Only Appearing on Some Platforms
Problem: Post scheduled for all platforms but only publishes to LinkedIn (or only one platform)
Common Causes:
1. Facebook/Instagram Connection Lost
- Connections can expire or disconnect without notification
- Facebook permission changes can break connection
- Instagram must be connected through Facebook Business Manager
How to verify:
- Go to Settings > Social Media
- Check connection status for each platform
- Look for warning icons or "Reconnect" buttons
- Verify all platforms show "Connected" status
2. Facebook Page Permissions Not Selected During reconnection, users must explicitly opt-in to each Facebook page:
- Settings > Social Media > Facebook > Reconnect
- When Facebook auth window opens, select "Edit Previous Settings"
- Check boxes for ALL pages you want to post to
- Ensure that you are not Clicking "Continue" without reviewing page selection
- Click "Done" to save permissions
3. Instagram Not Linked to Facebook Instagram posting requires Facebook connection:
- Instagram must be set up as Instagram Business Account
- Instagram must be linked to Facebook Business Page in Facebook settings
- Cannot post to personal Instagram accounts through Levitate
4. Individual Post Platform Selection When creating post, verify platforms selected:
- Post composer shows platform icons (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram)
- Icons should be highlighted/active for selected platforms
- Easy to accidentally deselect platform before publishing
- Review selection before clicking "Schedule"
FAQs: "No Target Posts" Error
Q: What does the "No Target Posts" error mean?
A: This error typically indicates that Levitate is unable to detect a Facebook or Instagram page associated with the account you're trying to connect.
Q: Why does this happen?
A: There are two common reasons:
- The user does not have admin access to the Facebook Business Page
- Your Facebook and Instagram accounts are not properly connected to each other before connecting to Levitate
Q: How can I fix this?
A: Before reconnecting your accounts to Levitate, make sure:
- You have the correct permissions (admin access) to the Facebook Business Page
- Your Facebook and Instagram accounts are already linked together within Meta
Once both are confirmed, try reconnecting your social accounts in Levitate.
Q: I've confirmed both and still see the error—what should I do?
A: If the issue persists, reach out to Levitate Support for further assistance.
Q: I see an error that says "Failed to load post targets" after connecting my Facebook or Instagram account — what does this mean?
A: This error appears when Levitate successfully receives your Facebook authorization but then cannot retrieve the list of Facebook Business Pages or Instagram accounts associated with it. The most common causes are: your personal Facebook account is not an admin on any Facebook Business Page, your Instagram account is not linked to a Facebook Business Page inside Facebook settings, or your Business Page does not have an Instagram Professional account connected to it. To resolve this, confirm that your personal Facebook account is an admin on the Facebook Business Page you want to post to, confirm your Instagram account is set to a Professional (Business) account, and confirm that Instagram is linked to your Facebook Business Page under Facebook Settings > Linked Accounts. Once those connections are in place in Facebook, return to Settings > Social Media in Levitate and reconnect the account.
FAQs: User Permissions for Social Media Connections
Q: Do I need to be a Levitate admin to connect a social media account?
A: No. Any Levitate user can connect their own social media accounts from Settings > Social Media, as long as social media is enabled for your account. You do not need admin access within Levitate to initiate a Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn connection.
Q: My client cannot connect Instagram because she is not a full admin on the Facebook Business page — how does she get that access granted?
A: Instagram connections require that the personal Facebook account used to connect is a full admin on the associated Facebook Business page. To grant admin access in Facebook, the current page admin should go to the Facebook Business page, open Settings, choose Page Roles (or Page Access, depending on the Facebook interface version), and add the person's personal Facebook account as an admin. Once the access request is approved and the role shows as admin, the user can return to Levitate and retry the Instagram connection. If the page owner is unsure where to find these settings, Facebook's own Help Center has step-by-step instructions for managing page roles.
Note: Facebook admin access is managed entirely within Facebook — Levitate cannot grant or approve Facebook page permissions on your behalf. If the person who owns the Facebook Business page is not available to approve the request, you will need to coordinate with them directly before the Instagram connection can be completed.
Q: A user has left our organization and their Levitate profile was reassigned to a new person. Will the social media connections transfer automatically?
A: No. Social media connections in Levitate are tied to the individual user login that originally authorized them. When a profile is reassigned to a new user, the previous social media connections do not carry over — the new user will need to connect their own Facebook, Instagram, and/or LinkedIn accounts from Settings > Social Media. If you need help with the profile reassignment process, please contact your Success Manager.
Note: If social media posts were scheduled under the previous user's connections, those posts may fail after the reassignment. We recommend reviewing any upcoming scheduled posts and rescheduling them once the new user has connected their own social accounts.
Q: Why does connecting Instagram require a Facebook login, and what can I do if my Facebook account is blocked or inaccessible?
A: Instagram business accounts are managed through Meta's platform, which requires a Facebook account to authorize third-party connections. Levitate uses this Facebook authorization to verify that your Instagram account is linked to a Facebook Business Page and that you have the necessary permissions to post. Without a valid Facebook login, Levitate cannot establish or maintain the Instagram connection. If your Facebook account is locked, suspended, or otherwise inaccessible, you will need to restore access to that Facebook account before the Instagram connection can be completed. Visit Facebook's Help Center to resolve any account access issues. Once your Facebook account is back in good standing, return to Settings > Social Media in Levitate and reconnect Instagram.
Note: If the Facebook account that was used to connect Instagram becomes permanently inaccessible, you will need to link your Instagram account to a different Facebook account or Facebook Business Page, then reconnect through Levitate using the new Facebook login.
Troubleshooting: Posting and Scheduling Errors
Facebook Post Failed to Publish
If a post you scheduled shows a Failed status or does not appear on your Facebook Business Page, the most common causes are a lost connection or a permission issue with the connected page.
Steps to resolve:
- Go to Settings > Social Media in Levitate and verify that your Facebook account still shows as Connected. If you see a warning icon or a Reconnect prompt, reconnect your account.
- When reconnecting, click Edit Previous Settings in the Facebook authorization window and make sure the checkbox is selected for the Facebook Business Page you want to post to.
- Confirm that your personal Facebook account is still listed as an admin on the Facebook Business Page.
- After reconnecting, reschedule or resend the post that failed.
Note: Facebook occasionally revokes third-party app permissions during platform security updates. If posts start failing unexpectedly, reconnecting through Settings > Social Media is typically the first fix to try.
Facebook Identity Confirmation on Mobile
When connecting or reconnecting your Facebook account in Levitate, Facebook may present an identity confirmation step that requires you to approve the login from the Facebook mobile app on your phone. This is a Facebook security measure — it is not specific to Levitate — and typically appears when Facebook detects a new or unusual login attempt.
What to do: Open the Facebook app on your phone and follow the prompt to confirm the login. Once you have approved the request on your phone, return to the browser and complete the connection process in Levitate. If the prompt does not appear, check your Facebook notifications or the Security and Login settings in the Facebook app.
Facebook "Confirm Your Identity to Publish" Error
If a Facebook post fails with the message "Confirm your identity before you can publish as this page. Open the Facebook app on your phone and follow the instructions," Facebook is requiring an identity check before allowing third-party apps like Levitate to post on your behalf.
Steps to resolve:
- Open the Facebook app on your phone.
- Look for a notification or prompt asking you to confirm a recent login or publishing action — approve it.
- If no prompt appears automatically, go to Menu → Settings & Privacy → Settings → Security and Login and look for any pending verification steps.
- If you still don't see a prompt, try posting directly to your Facebook Business Page from within the Facebook app (outside of Levitate). Facebook may be blocking all publishing from that page until your identity is verified — attempting to post directly often triggers the verification notification so you can complete the confirmation step.
- After completing the confirmation on your phone, return to Levitate and reschedule or resend the post.
Note: This is a Facebook security measure and is not specific to Levitate. Once you confirm your identity in the Facebook app, your posts should publish normally. If the error recurs, it may indicate that Facebook has flagged your account for additional security review — follow any instructions Facebook provides in the app to resolve it.
Instagram Business Page Connection Errors
If you encounter an error when trying to connect or create an Instagram business page through Levitate, work through the following checklist before contacting support:
- Confirm your Instagram profile is set to a Professional (Business) account — personal accounts cannot be connected to Levitate.
- Confirm your Instagram account is linked to your Facebook Business Page inside Facebook settings (Settings > Linked Accounts > Instagram).
- Confirm your personal Facebook account is an admin on the Facebook Business Page you are trying to use.
- Try disconnecting and reconnecting the Instagram account from Settings > Social Media in Levitate.
If you continue to see an error after completing the steps above, try creating a new Facebook Business Page and linking your Instagram to that page instead. The new page is used only to establish the Instagram connection; your original Facebook Business Page will remain your posting target in Levitate. If the issue persists, contact Levitate Support.
Persistent Error When Scheduling a Post
If you see a recurring error message every time you attempt to schedule a social media post, the most likely cause is that the underlying social media connection has lost its authorization. The scheduling flow in Levitate requires a valid, active connection to each platform you are posting to.
Steps to resolve:
- Go to Settings > Social Media and check the connection status for each platform (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn).
- Disconnect and reconnect any account that shows an error or warning indicator.
- Try scheduling the post again once all platforms show a Connected status.
If the error continues after reconnecting all accounts, please contact Levitate Support so we can investigate the specific error message you are seeing.
Managing Multiple Connected Accounts
In some cases, more than one social account of the same type (for example, multiple Facebook pages) may become connected under your Levitate profile. This can happen if the connection flow was completed more than once, or if a previous user's connections were not fully removed before the profile was reassigned.
To review and remove extra connections, go to Settings > Social Media in Levitate. Each connected account is listed individually — click Disconnect next to any account you no longer want Levitate to post to. After disconnecting extras, reconnect only the account you want to keep. If you are unsure which account is active or need help removing a connection you cannot see, contact Levitate Support.
